Los Alamos

Getting out of LA is crucial for clearing your head and a change of pace. I stumbled across the Skyview Motel in Los Alamos online and realized that we must have driven passed it a dozen times without realizing it was there- its hidden in plain sight you might say just off of the 101. The motel itself has been standing since 1959 and was recently renovated into a comfortable boutique motel. With only 33 rooms its a great place to get cozy and not worry about a crowd. The deluxe room is the way to go offering an outdoor shower overlooking the Santa Ynez wine country with a private patio, and fire pit. The beds are comfortable and you will find everything you need in the room to get cozy and relax. The pool is perfect for lounging and just the right temperature. The hotel restaurant the Norman serves farm to table food that is sophisticated yet approachable. The Chef was very accommodating to my diet restrictions (allergies) and special requests for the bebe. A small complimentary breakfast is served daily consisting of coffee, homemade baked goods, and fruit. The property is beautifully landscaped with fire pits and lounging chairs placed throughout. You can hop on a bike and cruise into town at your leisure.

 Things to do:

The town is quaint and quiet with one main street consisting of a few antique shops and restaurants. What may be lacking in quantity is made up for in quality. Bobs Well Bread quickly became our favorite spot for breakfast or lunch (kitchen closes at 3 pm sharp) serving stumptown coffee and an amazing mouthwatering full menu of made in house sandwiches, soups, and house made Toulouse sausage. The original Union Hotel built in 1880 still stands giving the town its authentic charm. Although we didn’t have a chance to go inside, the saloon looks like a great spot to post up at the bar or slide into a booth.

There are wineries surrounding the area as well as farms that you can visit. Pismo beach is only a 30-minute drive and San Luis Obispo just a few minutes further has shopping, bars, and more restaurants.
