Autocamp, Yosemite, and a detour

After a roaring good time at my nieces dinosaur themed birthday we took to the road catching the last of the evening light headed to Autocamp located just below Yosemite national park. Our drive was lovely as the setting sun lined the trees with gold and the fresh mountain air filled the car through the open windows.

Arriving at night to your location has its downsides but one thing in its favor is the surprise experience you get in the morning as you wake up to discover what’s around you. Autocamp is a glamping experience all of its own. The park is filled with custom built airstreams with a modern mid-century vibe and spa inspired bathrooms. I know it sounds too good to be true for a trailer! Breakfast was held in a tipi, hot coffee and local fresh baked goods. There is a small pond and wagons are provided for carting your belongings around. They are currently building a clubhouse with a restaurant and pool.

We made our way into Yosemite National Park enjoying a 40 minute drive with the road hugging the mountain and the river rushing from the recent snow melts. The park is majestic. Being surrounded by nature really makes you feel grounded. As this was our first family trip we kept our expectations in check. We simply wanted to enjoy our surroundings and allow M to wander. I highly recommend packing a picnic, we stopped at the High Country Health Food on our way to the park to pick up the staples. They have a full cafe and the essentials.

We decided to make a slight detour and take the 101 down the coast stopping in Pismo beach. It is mellow and we have come to love some of the local spots. I highly recommend checking out The Spoon Trade for dinner. If you have little ones Dinosaur Caves Park is a lot of fun and has a gorgeous view.

Although some trips may feel like equal drive time to the time spent actually enjoying the destination. The scale is always in favor of adventure over convenience.
